About Moi

Well, I never thought I'd have to write one of these..
Let's start with a bit of background!

Ok, so I started working with glass three years ago.
I started out with stained glass suncatchers, the progressed to lamps (got over that really quick...HARD work!) and then got into fusing.
I "discovered" lampwork one day by accident. I'd been browsing around on Ebay for stained glass supplies when some beads popped up.
When it finally clicked in my head that a human had crafted these beads out of glass, I knew I HAD to try this out.
So, knowing nothing of the craft I jumped right in! There were some stressfull times.
I started with no knowledge, exepct what many kind souls online offered me. When I realized all the crazy mistakes I made,
I knew there were other people out there making the same ones... so I decided to create the Canadian Lampwork Forum.
I hope it has been of some use! I work from my home-based studio in Montreal, Quebec.
I use an oxy-propane set up and all my beads take a nice long annealing sleep in my kiln (so they don't crack or chip).
I feel pretentious calling myself an artist, but I love my craft, I want to be unique and mostly I want to share my visions with people.

What the deuce is a Djinn??

I chose the name Djinn to represent me because of its origins.
The word Djinn is the root of Genie, and it is a demon created out of fire. Now, I'm not saying I'm demonic...nor are my beads evil..
but uh, well, I liked the thought of a magical being created of fire.
Maybe the flame is my djinn, helping me to produce magical beads.
Maybe it's the djinn who, smiling with whimsy over my shoulder, suggestes parfaits and crazy bird beads, whispering into my ear.
The torch is it's genie bottle, and the flame releases my wishes and dreams to be captured in glass.
Uh....either way, I hope you like the beads!
